Two of the most high-profile jihadi attacks during 2013 displayed a striking similarity in targets and tactics, raising the possibility that the attacks are on the vanguard of an emerging trend in jihadi operations.

The Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement claimed 36 attacks on Djiboutian, Ethiopian, Kenyan, Sierra Leonean, and Somali forces in Somalia from October 29-November 8, 2013, and also reported on its appointing a new governor for Bay and Bakool.
