Reports of a Pakistani security operation against the Jamia Hafsa madrasah in Islamabad and the subsequent flight of the school's leader Abdul Aziz Ghazi was posted to a jihadi forum. The news was announced in an August 12, 2013 discussion thread titled "Islamabad : Security Foces Have Surrounded Jamia Hafsa To Capture Maulana Abdul Aziz Sahab Again !" In the thread, a user related "breaking news" that security forces had surrounded the Jamia Hafsa madrasah to capture Maulana Sahab. In response, members of the forum called for jihadists to be ready to "Rise before its too late!!!!!!" Another opined that the "People of Islamabad should be prepared for the defense of the masajid." Addressing Ghazi's flight, a jihadist expressed desire that Ghazi would join jihadists in Waziristan, writing: "Hope to see him in a video in which he will be Sitting in the Land Of Jihad (Waziristan)"
The complex housing the Jamia Hafsa mosque and Lal Masjid seminary was the location of a 2007 siege between the Pakistani army and followers of the mosque. The siege, which lasted from July 3- 11, 2007, resulted in over a hundred and fifty deaths, including that of Abdul Rashid Ghazi, one of two brothers leading the complex. The second brother, Abdul Aziz Ghazi, was arrested while attempting to leave the complex on July 4, 2007 and imprisoned until April 16, 2009.
