Following ‘Amaq Report, IS Issues Communique on Killing U.S. and Afghan Soldiers in Nangarhar

The Islamic State (IS) released an official claim of killing and wounding U.S. and Afghan forces during a “failed landing operation” in Afghanistan.

The communique was released on April 27, 2017 by IS’ Khorasan Province, hours after IS’ ‘Amaq News Agency reported on the event. It stated that IS fighters “thwarted an air landing attempt” by U.S. and Afghan forces in the Mamand Achin area of Nangarhar, during which “fierce clashes took place.” The statement concluded of the attack:

It led to the killing of a number of [U.S. forces] and wounding of others [among them], and the occurrence of deaths and injuries among the apostates, while the rest of them escaped after Allah made them turn back in disappointment, and unto Allah is all praise.

The same day, a Pentagon spokesman announced that two American soldiers were killed while targeting IS forces in Nangarhar.

IS’ ‘Amaq Reports Killing and Wounding U.S., Afghan Forces During “Failed Landing Operation” in Afghanistan

The Islamic State’s (IS) ‘Amaq News Agency reported the killing and wounding of U.S. and Afghan forces during a “failed landing operation” in Afghanistan.The message, released on April 27, 2017, stated that IS fighters “thwarted…a landing operation by U.S. forces, accompanied by Afghan Special Forces” in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province. After describing what was “nearly 60 minutes” of “fierce rocket and artillery bombardment,” the message stated:

[‘Amaq’s] sources said that deaths and injuries were inflicted among U.S. forces during the operation, and also affirmed that traces of blood were discovered in the location where the helicopters landed.

An accompanying image, showing military gear accompanied by a U.S. flag, was clarified as being an “archive photo.”
