13th Issue of AQAP Magazine Specifies Individuals and Companies as Targets, Provides Bomb-Making and Security Bypassing Manuals

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) released the 13th issue of its English magazine "Inspire," wherein it restated that its goal to assist in the “Jihad on America" and provided such information as a detailed manual to make a hidden bomb and a list of specified economic targets. 

The 112-page magazine was posted on AQAP's Twitter account on December 24, 2014, and was provided in PDF, video, and images formats, and well as being uploaded on YouTube. 

The issue also included an interview with the “AQ Chef,” who has authored the “Open Source Jihad” articles since the inception of the publication. In the interview, the AQ Chef promoted the concept of lone-wolf jihad, stressing the importance of claiming responsibility for attacks while making appeals to Zale Thompson, the NY hatchet attacker; Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter; and Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, the underwear bomber; and others.

Along with this interview, the magazine issue provided step-by-step manuals on creating bombs and bypassing security barriers. 

The 13th “Inspire” issue also specified different targets of attack in two different categories. The first suggested various Western airline companies, including American Airlines, United, Continental Airlines, Delta, British Airways and easyJet, and AirFrance. Such proposed attacks were specified as being “better to execute inside American soil.”

The magazine also specified prominent American business/economic figures. In this section, pictures and brief profiles of Ben Bernanke and Bill Gates were given, both described as being people who “run the American economy.”

The same article in the magazine provided demands to these figures, along with other wealthy and powerful individuals in America, should they desire to “save themselves and their money”:

1. Drawing all their money from American banks, and moving them to banks that are not related to the American stock market.

2. Investing their wealth outside American soil.

3. Declaring via media that he is far from American policies towards Muslim and America's support for Israel.

Other suggested economic targets included the World Trade Center, banks, and forex. 

Accompanying the released magazine was a three minute, 12 second promotional video for its bomb making and security bypassing manuals. The video included scenes of U.S. officials and another individuals discussing homegrown extremism, and a clip from a movie of an airplane crash, over which an AQAP chanter sings in English about inspiring Muslims for jihad.
