Westgatemallnight

Members of English-language jihadist forums expressed their enthusiasm for the Shabaab al-Mujahideen's attack against the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya that has resulted in the deaths of at least 60 people and a continuing siege between jihadist fighters and Kenyan security forces.

Discussion threads dedicated to the Westgate attack were established on the Ansar al-Mujahideen English Forum (AMEF), the Jamia Hafsa Urdu and English forum, and the Deen al-Haqq English, Pashto, and Urdu forum, through which forum participants described their delight in the "great news" and wish that the "game is just Beginning!" One jihadi noted, for example, that he is "really impressed and glad" as he has been "waiting for such an attack on the great kufar [non-Muslim] government on kenya." Other jihadis castigated Muslim leaders who denounced the violence, complaining that such individuals overlook violence against Muslims and Muslim non-combatants around the world but that the fighters who carried out the attack "are restoring the Muslim pride in me." Among the responses, a jihadi specifically noted the venue with approval, writing that the fighters attacked "the capalist palace where money is king not Allah."

On the Ansar al-Mujahideen English Forum, contributors displayed a characteristic attention to the providence of news about the attack, issuing frequent updates about the status of the Shabaab al-Mujahideen's official Twitter presence as the group established new user accounts in an effort to circumvent censorship from Twitter. As well, leading forum members steered users away from sharing information sourced from news agencies who they believe would attempt to portray the mujahideen in a negative light.
